Money – Want- Happiness

Posted on

Want is a monster

If I gave you $100 would you keep it forever. Would you pass it down to you children as a keepsake? Of course not. Then why do we pray or hope for money. Sure it provides us a means to get what we want, but it isn’t what we want. Why should we ask for something that we don’t want? Some people reading this may think, “I do want more money.” Actually, that’s a programmed thought. Money is the “middle man” to our wants and needs. It’s the road to obtaining material things. We don’t go around wishing for more roads. Our thoughts and our focus should be on what we want.

Now that we have our focus on why we want that product or service, we should ask ourselves Is it a need or a want? Is this something that we have wanted for a while or did we just see it and thought “OMG I HAVE TO HAVE IT.” That’s me in a hardware store. When shopping, we should never deviate too far from the list. We do make shopping lists right? If not, make one. One or two added items should be fine, but more than that and our planned budget is blown. Know what you are getting and know why you are buying it. Never buy anything unplanned. Spontaneous purchases will lead to buyer’s regret more times than not. If a product is worth having, it will be around for a while. Limited time offers are an old gimmick. Don’t be suckered in.

Money may not buy happiness, but it does control it. Our society runs off of money. In order to be a part of society we need money in order to get what we want. Remember money is not what we want. It is only a means of obtaining our wants. If we want to be happy, we need to be thrifty. There is nothing wrong with being thrifty or frugal. Money and happiness comes down to living within your budget. Beware of wanting more. We always want more. Want is a bottomless pit that can never be filled. You will always want more. Learn to want what you can afford. If we cannot be happy with what we have, we should learn to be happy with less. Times are not tough. People are vexed by where they are and where they want to be. This is why it’s important to learn to be happy. When I learnt that everything will always work out, my life got a lot simpler. I did not set around worrying about how things were going to work out. I stopped fretting over thing I could not control. I got happier.

Learn to be happy. Happiness is not a destination or a thing. It’s a state of being. We choose to be happy. It is just that simple. We should never compromise our happiness with excuses. We deserve to be happy.

Thanks for taking the time to read, and may we always learn the value of happiness.

Love this ! Forgive me if you’re not Christian but it just reminds me about how the bible says the love of money is the root of all evil and it’s easier for a camel to get through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into the kingdom. Simplicity is key.

Religion is a huge part of my life. When it comes to money I like to think, if we didn’t lust over it so much, it wouldn’t have it’s value. I love your input on this. Thanks for posting.

You’re so right. The past is gone, the future will be what it is. Choosing to be happy doesn’t mean we can’t strive for better, healthier living. It’s just something we can control in the here and now. Why experience what you have right now with negativity? Why allow regret and fear to influence greed. Great post!

You are so right. If you look at your life right now, it really is the culmination of every cause, every decision you made in your life. Our life is our responsibility. So how do you want your future to be? Many people let life slap them around or don’t take responsibility by saying an outside source “planned” their life to be that way. Put yourself at the controls and make the causes for your life to be what YOU want it to be, and have no doubt about the outcome.

Thank you for taking the time. It is very appreciated. It d a labor of love for me. I just took a break from writing the book about him. I’m working on his elementary years trying to see what went wrong. He isn’t a “criminal” but was pushed through the school to prison pipeline so many, especially black boys, get caught up in.I hope you come back and read more. Read the post “juvy to prison”

I have a friend whose father works with prison inmates in Canada helping them get re-integrated into society when upon release. Their organisation also works hard with youth, inner city and marginalised kids, to get them exposure to community leaders, pro athletes, and other such programming. It’s so important to teach young people that they are incredibly important, worthwhile, and that they can and should strive to be role models themselves. It works.

You’re friend’s father is doing a great thing. Children are our leaders of tomorrow. So many need our help instead of throwing them away. In July I start working with the prisons in Maryland. There is juvenile detention place there too . I hope it also involved the kids..

There are two kinds of happiness. “relative”, which are the things that temporarily make you happy. That happiness wears off or can be easily destroyed, and “absolute”, which is internal. Unhappy things don’t destroy it. Obstacles are viewed as something to learn from. It’s understanding that negatives can be turned into positives. It’s a lifelong process of human revolution.

Because you write about happiness. For some, the. things they want and desire are fleeting things and don’t have the power to make them happy for very long, especially those things that make you happy that you purchased with money. Many people who think they will find happiness in the purchase things, have no idea how to have lasting happiness. Which would you rather have if you knew the difference?

The topic of the conversation switch to prison. I was lost on how that was relative. I don’t remember writing about prison. 🙂

It switched to prison because someone on your site, when i commented on her reply, she went to my site and commented to it on your site. She brought it into the conversation. It would have been better if she had written to me on my site on a post she read instead of your site. I didn’t catch on that was what happened. She and I have had other conversations since then on my site. I apologize if that is an issue with you. It seems you have not understood any comments I have made so far, so it is probably better if I bow out from making any more.

That’s good. I try, when I write, to give a perspective perhaps not thought of. I have decades of study of human nature and why we do the things we do. I wasn’t trying to take anything away from what you wrote. I like what I have read and finding a new blog that is worthwhile reading – to expand your network which in turn expands mine.

We have to focus and be grateful for what we have now, because if we thrive too much on the past etc it can take over. We need to be happy for where we are now in order to move on. Thanks for the blog Stevenjcurtis.
