Revenge Is Not Mine…

Posted on

Sometimes revenge is the answer. When I say sometimes I actually mean “At no time”. Revenge is messy business. We all have plotted on someone at some time. I’m not saying that we planned some diabolical scheme that causes total destruction. However, we have wanted to retaliate for the actions of another person, ever how small it may be. I live by the law of Karma. If I plant bad seeds I’ll harvest bad crops. If I plant good seeds and I’ll harvest good crops. This is why revenge will never work. Any wrong deed, no matter the reason, is still wrong. Thus, revenge is not for us to take. Vengeance falls under the same category. It would behoove us to focus our energy on more positive actions. I have found that most actions that were done out of malice, were done out of a rash reaction. This is why I have learned not to take people’s actions personally. Sometimes I am just an easy target. Why should I throw fuel on the fire, when most of the reaction was a misunderstanding? Children act like that. We are not children. We are professionals and we should always maintain a high level of professionalism.

Stay calm and collect. If our nerves and temper start to get the best of us, we should excuse ourselves and go cool off. A quick step outside can do wonders. Get a drink of water. Come back, and continue in a calm voice. Stop taking things personal. Things will mess up. I use to take my job personally, until I realized that I was human and I make mistakes. I do not fail. My plans may, but that’s why I set up contingency plans. It’s my system. My system does not fail because I planned for failure. To some, this may sound obtuse or outlandish but it’s how I succeed. My stress level is lower and I can maintain a calm composure easier. The idea is not to get upset.

Keep in mind that others are watching what we do. People often come up to me and ask how I stay so calm when things are so bad. By watching my actions they learn how to stay calm and they see the results of it. Trust me, when a superior is losing their cool that is not the time to lose yours. Be professional and be a mentor. I tell myself this every day. I know that I have coworkers watching and learning from my examples. It’s not hard to follow when it’s a habit and a way of life. We all have bad times; it’s how we handle it that sets us apart from others.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and may we never waste our energy on revenge.

I agree. Very well said. Sometimes it’s hard to remember these virtues the midst of something frustrating.

This truly blessed me because l just had this talk with God on last night about people, especially in leadership positions who retaliate and seek revenge because of hurt and anger in their heart. That is not a good example to set, especially to believers who are babes or new to to their walk in Christ. It confuses them, and makes them think it is OK to behave in that ungodly manner until they come into the knowledge of truth.

I find the process of revenge exhausting, and I just don’t have the time or energy. Come to think of it, idiots don’t deserve either my time or my energy. I even have a bit of trouble writing revenge into my plots. Gotta work on that. I’m so glad you found my blog, thanks for following Jean’s Writing.

I honestly try so hard to let things go and remain calm in terrible situations but I fly off the handle every time. A lot of that probably has a lot to do with the fact that I am only 16. I try to just let things go and relax but I end up trying to fix everything. I am a planner and its a curse because your life changes every single day especially when you are 16 years old. I am the girl who would rather just find a great guy and marry him, I’m too serious for my age and I hate it. I am going to take your advice though maybe the millionth time of me hearing it will work.

It’ll come with time. Most important lesson I learned was how to excuse myself and cool down. We all have our moments. It’s how we handle ourselves in those moments that matter. 🙂

I believe that some people become insecure, for whatever reason that may be, and when they interact with others they can misunderstand words and signals from that other person. I am an introvert and interacting socially is not my strong suit. People have misunderstood me many times and when I try to explain myself, it seems that that individual has already worked themselves up so much so that they spend a big portion of their day thinking how I “disrespected” them. You are right. A lot of it has to do with communication. And if we are truly wronged, I any type of revenge is counterintuitive.

I do concur. I’m an ambivert with introvert tendencies. I socialize in short spurts and often have similar trouble expressing my views or ideas. Thanks for the reply 🙂

Revenge is like a boomerang… it will come back to you.
