Set down, Shut up, and Listen

Posted on Updated on

We are born with two eyes, two ears, one nose, and one mouth. As a child I was reminded of this fact over and over. As an adult, I appreciate that lesson more. Take the time to listen and observe others. Spend a whole day saying very little. My perspective on the world has changed for the better since I’ve learn to set down, shut up, and listen.2015-05-09 07.36.20_resized

Thank you for deciding to follow my blog. Appreciate your comment here on sitting down and listening. This is something I am also learning. This morning I read this comment in a random article I came across: Silence is God’s language.

Yes, God desires us to listen more and talk less. Thanks for sharing.

I like this brief reminder. It is so true.

Much wisdom in this! The book of Proverbs says something similar but a little more harshly.

This is totally wisdom! You can learn a whole lot by simply sitting down keeping your mouth closed, and listening. I am in that season of my life now.

First, thanks for following me. I also read a couple of your other posts. Boy, are we on
    the same page.

The only point I would make differently is that I think happiness is not always the goal. I just wrote last week about how happiness is always dependent on circumstances. For myself, I’ve replaced happiness with well-being, peace, and contentedness. Anyway, thanks again and looking forward to reading more. God bless you, Steve.

Thanks for the reply. For me happiness is a state of mind. I do see where you are coming from and do agree. I look forward to reading more 🙂

I agree with you entirely, for when you do you increase your scope for understanding. Unfortunately many persons are so judgemental, when they have not allocated time to understand the situations.

    Hi Steve…thanks for your support!!
A very appropriate thought! I go a step further n often recommend a different use of both ears….listen from one n let it flow out the other!! Believe me, there are times when it becomes essential to do so!! Refuse to be a receptor of garbage!!

Good post. As someone said, it is very hard to learn something new if you are speaking all the time

Hi Steven, good idea on the listening over talking. I think we learn more by listening and thinking and not just jumping in with an opinion. Thanks for following my blog. Going to see what else you have going on here…

I am the listener in all my interactions with people. I never thought of it as a positive thing until reading your post today. Food for Thought!
