Human Contact

Posted on

One of the best feelings in the world is that of a friend. Just knowing that we are not alone and someone cares makes a huge difference. Like it or not, most of us are not programmed to go through life alone. We crave human interaction.

It’s amazing how great a simple back rub can make us feel when we are sick. Touch can be a powerful tool, not just in intimacy but emotionally as well. A hug can bring comfort when our spirit is down. Someone holding our hand as we walk along the storefronts can bring a smile to our face. Contact is one of life’s simple pleasures.  Go without it for a while and the first interaction can be as soothing as the first cool rain after a long summer drought.

I’m a hugger and I give good hugs too. Hand shakes and fist bumps are for social and business meetings. Everyone else gets hugged. I love to watch people’s reactions. “Oh we’re doing this?”, is my favorite response to a hug thus far. Yes we’re doing this. A hug from me says, I like you. It also shows a sense of trust.

Human contact is one of the best things in this world. We should strive to keep it that way. We have two hands to sooth with, two eyes to look with, two arms to hug with, and two ears to listen with. We have one mouth to speak sparingly with and one heart to love sparingly. 🙂

Consider yourself hugged, Steve. I hug trees too!
